Types of industrial storage cabinets and their uses
At Racking & Shelving Ltd, we are often asked for our expert guidance on what type of industrial storage cabinet is required in various different scenarios. We supply and install many different types of commercial storage cabinets , and they each have their own set of pros and cons, depending on the application. Here, we’ll talk you through some of our most popular products and explain what uses they are best suited to. Read on to find out more – and if you’re in any doubt about which industrial storage cabinet to use, we’ll be only too happy to help!
Hazardous cabinets
If you need to store hazardous products such as chemicals, cleaning agents or paints, then hazardous cabinets are a great choice. This keeps dangerous substances well out of reach, and because they are lockable you’ll only be able to gain entry with a key or code. Hazardous cabinets are inflammable, as many commonly hazardous products present a considerable fire risk.
PPE cabinets
More popular than ever now due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) cabinets should be a staple in every workplace. This is a dedicated area where PPE can be stored safely and hygienically, and where it cannot be contaminated by non-PPE products. Safety products such as masks, gloves and goggles can be safely stored here, but it’s important that only PPE equipment is in a dedicated PPE cabinet.
Medical Cabinet
Another essential feature of any factory, office or retail premises – anywhere that people work – is a medical cabinet. This is generally a smaller cabinet that can be wall-mounted to ensure easy access in case of an emergency. Medical cabinets should contain all your first aid equipment, including plasters, antiseptic cream, bandages and scissors. There should be regular checks to ensure that the medical cabinet is fully stocked at all times.
Acid and alkaline cabinets
Acid and alkaline substances must be stored separately from other hazardous products as they can be highly corrosive and caustic. If not stored correctly, these substances can present a significant threat to the environment and also to health. By checking the product’s associated COSHH sheet you will be able to look at the pH level of the substance which will tell you if it’s acid or alkaline. If it is, it needs to be stored separately in an acid/alkaline cabinet.
