Shelving solutions for small spaces
It doesn’t matter how big and spacious your warehouse is, there will always be those tight spots that just don’t have enough useful room. Often these spaces go to waste or end up as a bit of a dumping ground for things – which can turn into a bit of a health and safety hazard. But if you are creative about the use of this compact space, then there are plenty of storage solutions available to you.
Maybe your warehouse is just too small – in that case you’ll need to use the space available to you as creatively as possible in order to ensure that you fit as much as possible in without causing blockages and fire exit access issues.
Small aisles and tiny gaps that aren’t big enough for pallet racking are often a source of much frustration to a warehouse manager. But the good news is that compact shelving is almost always an option. You just need to be very smart about how you design it, so that you fully maximise the space available.
Think about what it is that you could feasibly store in these smaller areas. Perhaps it’s boxes of small components or fixings and fastenings? Or maybe it’s spare stationery and/or buttons or craft materials. Anything small that comes in low quantities is perfect for this area. Once you know what it is you want to store in this small space, you’ll be able to design a storage solution that fits the bill.
Once you have your designs ready, try and track down some smaller shelving such as narrow wire shelves, corner wire shelves, or possibly even rivet wire shelves. There are plenty of different designs available, so it’s highly likely you’ll find a type of shelving that’s perfect for your particular application.
Even if it really isn’t possible to fit shelving in your smaller spaces, you could still consider the use of a mezzanine floor – this is another great storage solution that is often overlooked. Could it be a possible solution for your storage woes? Mezzanine floors are great for adding much-needed extra storage space without increasing the footprint of your building.
Finally, look to your outside area – are you making the most of that space? You could consider a lockable unit placed outside which could be used to store a wealth of different things securely.
