How to maximise warehouse storage space with industrial shelving
Shelving plays a central role in both the productivity and appearance of your business. Well thought-out shelving can streamline your working practices, saving your workforce hours of time – and therefore money. Robust, good quality shelving will help maximise the space and increase the efficiency and safety of any warehouse. Not sure where to start?
There are lots of different types of industrial shelving storage systems
so let’s take a quick look.
Tyre racking – Tyre racks are an industrial racking solution for the manual storage of tyres. Because of their very specific characteristics, tyres are one of the most complex products to store. As a result, bespoke, custom-built racking systems, usually with specially developed bearing systems to prevent tyres from rolling, are highly recommended.
Boltless shelving – Boltless storage shelves (or rivet shelves) are ideal heavy-duty shelving systems for warehouses, offices or stockrooms. Far simpler to assemble and install than other metal shelving units – the no-bolt system means they can be constructed and deconstructed with ease – they are durable, customisable and affordable.
Longspan shelving systems are highly versatile modular shelving systems that offer a huge range of storage capabilities. They are usually constructed from steel frames with steel, wood or chipboard shelves. They are ideal for the manual storage of medium weight and size products and are a popular storage option for workshops, industrial stores and warehouses.
Multi-tier shelving – These are manual storage solutions at two or more levels. Designed to maximise warehouse space, they are suitable for warehouses with limited floor space but available height and are ideal for medium-to-large warehouses. These heavy-duty shelves are fantastic economical space-saving options.
Carton live shelving – A carton live shelving system is a very flexible and practical warehouse storage solution and can greatly increase productivity. The shelves have beds of small rollers built into them and are set at a slight incline, allowing products to slide down them to the pick face. A carton live shelving system can significantly reduce the time taken for warehouse operatives to pick and prepare orders.
Mobile shelving – These shelving units come with wheeled traction systems. Great space-saving options for smaller warehouses and offices, they can be closely packed when access is not needed and then smoothly opened up when aisle access is required.
Mistral shelving – These are sturdy and stylish storage systems that come with a wide range of accessories. They are ideally suited for archive, small parts and general office storage.
As businesses grow and change, so too will your space and storage requirements. It’s good practice to audit and reassess your warehouse layout regularly – at least once a year – to be sure you are making the best use of any space.
