Easy Ways to Add More Storage Space to Your Office

Do you find yourself struggling to figure out where to put things in your office. If you don’t have enough storage space, you may need to get a little creative with it all. The trick is to look at spaces that are not fully utilised and make the most of them.

Look Up

How high is your office ceiling? Most are at least 10 feet above the floor, which means you have space above your existing furniture. Adding shelving a foot or so below the ceiling will give you plenty of extra storage space. You can either leave the shelves open, or add sliding doors to keep them neat looking. If you wish to double the space, drop the shelving another foot and add a second shelf.

Expand Your Store Room

Most offices have a supply closet or store room where they line the walls with shelves for storage. However, you may also be able to add another shelf in the centre of the room. Measure carefully to make sure you have enough room for people to move on either side of the additional shelf and get busy increasing your storage space.

Install Under Seat Storage

Chances are, you have stationary chairs somewhere in your office, whether they are in the waiting room, reception area or in a break room. Why not make the most of these spaces by replacing chairs and benches with storage bins topped with cushions to turn them into comfortable seating areas? These are easy enough to make and they can give you an excellent space to store items you rarely use.

Expand Existing Shelves

Look at your current shelves. Can you comfortably fit another shelf in front of it or replace the current shelving with deeper options? If so, you can store items you rarely use at the back and keep the more frequently used products and items in the front. It takes up minimal floor space, but adds in a lot more functionality to an office space.

Add Storage Under Desks

If you are currently using desks that just have legs or supports on either side, you can probably fit some narrow shelving units under them. It doesn’t take up much space, but gives your employees a way to reduce desktop clutter.

There are plenty of ways to add more storage space to your office area, if you are willing to think outside the box. While it isn’t always easy, if you don’t have the option to move, you’ll simply have to figure out how to make do and the tips above ought to help.
